for your beauty routine

If you aren’t in possession of this life-altering hair oil from Ranavat, I urge you to run not walk. Many of us grew up with hair oiling traditions, but this oil elevates that experience for me and turns it into a transportive one with its heady jasmine scent (for those of you who are scent-sitive like me, it is natural and not at all cloying). In fact, filing this under beauty routine seems like an underwhelming recommendation because it has truly impacted my well-being. And probably deserves its own blog post, which I will write in due course. In the meantime, order this online at Ranavat (or find it at Sephora in the U.S.) and start your own hair oiling ritual. You can thank me later. -SK

I used this song for a recent reel, and wanted to share it here with you. Probably an effort to hang on to those summer vibes as the end of the season approaches and gears start shifting toward fall. This summer anthem is a couple of years old and is a fantastic collaboration between SUPER-Hi and Neeka, producers and artists from Bournemouth, UK. I’ve never understood why all this amazing indie-pop from the UK doesn’t get more airtime in Canada or the U.S. This takes me straight back to graduate school in London, when I was studying very hard and partying in moderation. Wherever it transports you to, enjoy. - SK

For your home

These beeswax candles from June Home Supply are batch-made in Winnipeg, Canada, and are perfectly simple and elegant. I also like the short and wide pillar proportion, which I haven’t easily found elsewhere in this type of candle, Beeswax is known to be a natural air purifier and reduce odors and other environmental toxins, so hopefully we’re benefiting while the house is filled with a very subtle and warm aroma. They’re perfect when you don’t want a dominant scent or are sensitive to fragrance, and as an added bonus give off a beautiful golden glow. - SK

Merit Beauty has just rereleased their hero product, The Minimalist - a stick form foundation and concealer. For other makeup minimalists out there, this is easy to use (even with fingers) and has a good selection of shades to cover a wide range of skin tones. Great for travel too! -SK

If you haven’t yet discovered singer-songwriter Bob Schneider, I highly recommend adding this track to your next road trip tunes list and playing it when you’re driving with your hand hanging out the side of your car in the wind (playing it during a solo drive to Costco works too, that’s often the closest thing I have to a mini getaway from the domestic madness). -SK
