An Office of Influence

Having a dedicated home office space was a key element in convincing my American husband to move to Ottawa. Not the wildest move we’ve made, but one that has brought great comfort and stability.

Sometimes in design too you don’t need anything wild or unexpected, there’s a comfort in doing just what the space calls for and relying on elevated classics: original brick surrounding the former coal fireplace, a Norwegian wood stove, an antique rug over reclaimed river pine flooring.

I had to give up some prime real estate in the floor plan for my husband’s office, a decision made long before we knew how much we’d come to need it. But the sacrifice was worth it in the end, on both our parts. Personally, I think it’s the best office he’s ever had. After all, it’s right down the hall from the office kitchen, where there’s always fresh coffee and where the CEO can often be found baking between meetings. 😉
