Art (family) Matters

Art has always been a significant part of my life. I started collecting intentionally about 20 years ago, and encourage everyone to acquire original art of their own within their own means - start big or small, be guided by what resonates deeply, support artists by purchasing directly when possible, and have fun with it. Watching an art collection grow and evolve over time is a beautiful thing - like welcoming new members into the family. Some pieces have travelled and moved around the world with us for long time, but maintain their freshness in new spaces, light, environments.

Today’s bright and dramatic winter sun cast a totally different hue on this piece. We bought it 10 years ago from a fantastic young artist in Bali. We’ve almost lost the little sidekick piece that sits below the larger one a couple of times in moves, once rescuing it from boxes that had already been discarded by the movers in a dumpster across the street! Fortunately my husband did the dumpster diving.

I love to think of all the stories and secrets held by art, bearing silent witness to our lives and asking very little in return for all the beauty and inspiration. Like this young monk watching over us faithfully for over a decade.
